How do you spend Christmas Holiday?

There are many different ways people in the United States spend Christmas.

Morning usually starts off very early when there are children. The wonders of what Santa Clause brought often caused children to have a hard time sleeping. Therefore, it is not usually for a child at some point to sneak out during the night and take a peek. They get to excited and just can’t wait. No matter if they have seen their gifts or not you can bet they will be up early.

Most families with children like to get the whole family together in the morning. As the children go to see what Santa Clause brought them they will take picture after picture to make sure to capture the excitement on their children’s faces when they see what Santa has brought them.

Then it is time to open presents. Some families just start tearing open their presents. Other families will take turns so they can see what each other received.

When the presents have been opened it’s time for breakfast. While there are some that make a big breakfast others just have something to hold them over until their big Christmas meal.

For most people they are up early preparing for the big day ahead. It seems no matter how hard we try to prepare ahead of time there is always lot of things to do.

Our traditional Christmas dinner is turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, sweet potatoes, corn, fruits and breads. Some people substitute the turkey with ham. Other people may have a completely different idea of what they want to eat. I know a family that like to have Oyster Stew. That is different! Prime rib is another choice.

Christmas dinners are a time for family and friends. The time dinner is served varies greatly. It will start anywhere from noon until 8:00 in the evening. People that travel long distances may not have their dinner served until late to give everybody a chance to arrive. If people are not serving dinner in their homes, hopefully they are enjoying time with friends and family.

I am from a big family. For years we had a traditional Christmas dinner, but we had it on Christmas Eve with not only turkey, but ham and all the trimmings. Last year we decided pizza would be great! So now for Christmas dinner pizza it is. After dinner and the kitchen’s clean, we open presents form each other. It’s so much fun to watch the children opening their presents. When they are just about done the grown-ups join in.

After everyone has opened their presents we have fun checking out what everyone received. Now it’s time to eat again. The choices are homemade cookies, fudge, more chocolates, and three or four varieties of pies.

It is late by now. The ones with small children head for home. While mother’s get the kids ready for bed everyone else is running around getting the stocking in place and putting the hidden surprises under the tree. Even when we try to plan ahead there is still a lot to do before Santa arrives. Don’t forget the cookies and milk.

While they play with their new toys we finally have a chance to rest. Our Christmas Day dinner will be leftovers and they are always better than on Christmas Eve.
